Pelican's
Eclipse Tells the Xbox "We Just Need Some Time Apart"
My fellow Xbox owners, are we not human? If you prick us, do we not bleed? Then why can't we also experience wireless gaming like our console cousins? Well thanks to the people at Pelican, we can. Their Eclipse Wireless controller for Xbox claims to function flawlessly from up to fifty feet away regardless of obstruction. It also boasts multiple channels, rubber grips, four-player compatibility, an on/off rumble switch and a one hundred hour battery life (with rumble off), But does it deliver? Like Domino's. Using radio frequency rather than infrared, the range and mobility are vastly improved over wireless controllers of yore. How much so? We sent an intern down the street with the Eclipse and a cell phone; he was a block and a half away before the controller lost signal, and that's through houses. How's that for range. You'd need a five story TV set to require more distance. The control setup is a gem too. Influenced by Microsoft's S style controller, the body has been scaled down and the black and white buttons moved to the lower right side for easier access. Auxiliary (memory card, etc) ports have also been moved to the receiver unit to save space. But that's not all; they've also added black and white shoulder triggers as well! This is an improvement that defies description; you simply have to play it to know. Simply
put, this is THE controller for the Xbox. Even if it had a cord it's the
best design around, and without a cord it's perfection. For about forty
to fifty bucks you get the Eclipse Wireless Controller, a receiver unit
and two AA batteries. You can grab one anywhere games are sold or online
at one of the dealers listed at www.PelicanPerformance.com.
