In part two of
our personal defense series we reviewed Mace brand "Triple Action" spray.
Most companies only offer a pepper spray, but Mace has combined OC pepper
with CN teargas and a vivid UV dye.
We were fortunate enough to
have a test subject for the spray (It's amazing what people will do for
$50). So, our thanks go out to Robert Siciliano for providing the product
and answering our questions, and also to Jason Winscott for writhing on
the ground for twenty-seven minutes and thirty-four seconds. That was
the exact amount of time he was completely incapacitated by the "Triple
Action" spray. Only after that time did he feel up to retrying the attack.
He immediately backed off when I raised the canister even though we had
already agreed to only one spraying. The idea alone was enough to curb
any aggressive urges. Of course, I don't recommend that you time an actual
attacker. As I've said before, once the attacker is incapacitated run
away and get help. Unfortunately, Mr. Winscott would not agree to being
photographed for the article, but let me assure you that your attacker
will be easily identified unless he has a chance to hide in a group of
paint ball enthusiasts.
The canister comes with a
belt clip and key chain for convenient carry. The flip top lid allows
little chance of accidental discharge so that it can be dropped into purse
or pocket with security.
In closing, I would like to
say that if anyone points this stuff at me I'm just going to fall down
cover my eyes and hope they leave. You can get in touch with Mace at their
website www.stungun.com or by calling 1-800-GET-MACE(438-6223).
